PERSONALITY AND QUALITY OF LIFE IN PATIENTS WITH BONE TUMORS
Abstract
Abstract. The paper aims to substantiate the hypothesis about the possibility of identifying personality profiles (clusters) in patients with bone tumors; as well as the existence of interconnection between personality profiles and the main parameters of quality of life in patients with bone tumors. Aim. The purpose is to study the interconnection between personality profiles and quality of life data in patients with bone tumors. Materials and methods. The article presents the data of empirical research in 120 patients with bone tumors. The diagnoses are the following: osteosarcoma (41 persons), giant cell tumor (31 persons), chondrosarcoma (30 persons) and bone metastases (18 persons). The psychological methods were: SF-36 Health Status Survey, Quality of Life Questionnaire – Core 30 of European Organization for Research and Treatment Cancer with the Bone Metastases 22 module, BIG 5, Ways of coping and Purpose-in-Life Test questionnaires. Cluster, factorial and multifactorial dispersing analysis was performed. Results. The results revealed the interconnection between personality profiles (“Adaptive person”, “Addicted person”, “Responsible and independent person”, “Egocentric and alienated person”) and the general assessment of quality of life associated with health and particular parameters of quality of life related to bone tumors. Conclusion. These results can be used in developing programs of psychological accompaniment and psychosocial rehabilitation for oncological patients with problems typical for a certain personality profile.
