Abstract
Adaptation to a new ethnoculture and interaction with representatives of a new incultural environment in many people causes difficulties and is the cause that generates a sense of loneliness. In this regard, a study and comparative analysis was conducted among representatives of the near and far abroad, aimed at studying the subjective experience of loneliness. To determine the level of loneliness, we used the Russell’s and Ferguson’s method of diagnosing the level of subjective experience of loneliness. The study revealed the relationship between living of ethnic minority in Russia and the level of loneliness. Comparing the level of loneliness between representatives of the ethnic minority of the near and far abroad, it was found that men and women of the near abroad are experiencing a higher level of loneliness compared to migrants from far abroad. Comparing the levels of loneliness according to occupancy time in the territory of Russia, it was found out that a high level of loneliness are experienced in the period from 1 to 3 years by residents of the near abroad and the far abroad. In particular, we studied spectrum of emotions, which experienced by representatives of the ethnic minority of the near and far abroad in immigration. Questionnaire-based survey results and factor analysis showed that the most powerful factor in inhabitants of the near abroad was the factor characterized by negative emotions, manifested in disgust and contempt. It is possible to suppose that these emotions are caused by disappointment in the new cultural environment, its customs, values, which entailed the difficulties of entering to a new culture. At the same time the factor analysis showed that the most powerful factor in representatives of the ethnic minority of the far abroad is characterized by the tendency to understand and know a new culture in conjunction with the state of anxiety and sadness, probably connected with nostalgia for home and adjusting to new cultural conditions. The findings discovered new data about features of difficulties in adjustment to new cultural conditions.Downloads
