Expanding the concept from personal-professional formation of a professional to formation of a transprofessional
Abstract
Background: The problem of transprofessional development explored in this study is explained by the socio-economic conditions of a transitional society, as well as by the modern demand for a specialist capable of combining various types of activities. Currently, such a specialist is becoming more competitive in the labor market, unlike professionals specializing within a single subject area. Over the past decade, interest in this problem has grown. Yet, despite a diversity of research, the question of how transprofessionalism emerges in science remains open. Aim: This paper aims to analyze, systematize, and synthesize research on the formation of the transprofessional in psychological science. Theoretical foundations: This study is a theoretical analysis of Russian and international scientific literature on transprofessionalism. The methods used include the analysis, synthesis, and systematization of findings from various research on the formation of the transprofessional in psychology. Results: The analysis of psychological literature led to two primary conclusions. Firstly, it revealed a scarcity of studies investigating the formation of the transprofessional in psychological science. Second, the analysis enabled a precise definition of “profession” and “transprofession” and facilitated the conceptual expansion of “personal and professional formation of a professional” into a broader notion of “formation of a transprofessional”. Conclusion: The analysis of psychological literature on the research problem led to the identification of the distinctive characteristics of a profession versus a transprofession and of a professional versus a transprofessional. Furthermore, the principal conditions for the formation of a transprofessional were established.
