Professionally significant personality factors in person-oriented professionals
Abstract
Introduction. People in person-oriented professions engage in constant interpersonal contact in work settings. These occupations require skills in effective communication, constructive conflict resolution, emotion regulation, and behavioral control. Growing demands for soft skills and personal attributes underscore the importance of analyzing the professionally significant qualities of such specialists. Aims: therefore, this study aims to identify the structure of professionally significant qualities in person-oriented professionals. Materials and methods. The study analyzed personality questionnaire data from 85 person-oriented professionals: 41 senior university students aged 22.1 ± 1.5 and 44 professionals aged 36.8 ± 11.5 with at least three years of work experience in the field. The following psychodiagnostic instruments were used: Lyusin’s Emotional Intelligence Test (EmIn), Michelson’s Communication Skills Test (adapted by Yu. Gilbukh), the Social Communicative Competence Inventory (N. Fetiskin, V. Kozlov, and G. Manuilov), Kunitsyna’s Self-Regulation and Success of Interpersonal Communication Scale, and the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Mode Instrument (TKI). Results. The following professionally significant factors were identified in the personality structure of person-oriented professionals: social alienation, partner-oriented communication, striving for competition, self-orientation, emotion regulation and impulse control, communicative competence, and emotional intelligence. These factors were common to both senior university students and practicing professionals. Conclusion. Future research directions lie in examining the specific features of professional and personal structures in person-oriented professionals at different stages of their career development. The findings can serve as a basis for consultative work, as well as for recruitment processes and educational activities aimed at training relevant specialists.
