Abstract

Introduction. Conflict interaction has existed for a long time. Nowadays, the inevitability of conflicts is undisputable. However, the question arises about their rationality, the ability to be effective within a conflict, and the ability to maintain productivity at all its stages, including the culminating one. Aims: to identify the psychological structure of conflict competence. Materials and methods: conflict competence is thoroughly considered through the theory of activity developed by S. Rubinstein and the theory of systemogenesis by V. Shadrikov. The study involved school students (grades 6–10). Conflict competence is essential, since during this period there is a need for communication and friendship, emotional contacts, and communicative structures. Moreover, conflicts often arise due to the psychological characteristics of adolescents. The criteria provided made it possible to include adolescents in the sample population and to examine the theoretical model of conflict competence. Results: based on the previous study and a theoretical review of the possible elements of conflict competence, an empirical investigation of conflict competence was designed and performed that confirmed the integral nature of conflict competence. Conclusion: all components identified in a theoretical analysis of conflict competence were included in the psychological structure. The identified components form strong and moderate relationships, ensuring the structural integrity of conflict competence.
